ドイツ教育学会（DGfE）第28回大会のテーマがEntgrenzung（境界や限界を溶解させること）であることを受けて、本シンポジウムでは国家や地域の境界を超える世界市民的教育が、ドイツと日本という思想圏における世界市民性の議論を踏まえて、人間学、地理、歴史、ケーススタディという複数の視点をもって検討されました。

　このシンポジウムでは、規範的な哲学的世界市民主義だけでなく、人間学や地理、歴史、ケーススタディという科学的な世界市民主義（scientific cosmopolitanism）が、西洋的概念としばしば批判される世界市民主義を乗り越える豊かな世界市民的教育を新たに構築できるのではないか、ということが議論されました。さらに、世界市民的共同体を考える想像力や理解、といったものとともに、それらの土台となる「動的な空間」の重要性が指摘され、活発な議論がなされました。
